I was born in an area of England which is very heavily forested, and have always felt a sense of wonder at the size and scale of trees. Yet at the same time I feel enclosed by them, almost as if they block out the rest of the world from my eyes.

Coming from a long line of seafarers, I have always been drawn to the sea; I feel it is where I belong, where I am happy,
calm and at peace.

As many children do, I used to dream that if I could build a tower that reached just a little higher than the tree line,
then from the top I would be able to see the entire world laid out before me
- at that time I had no understanding of the curvature of the earth.

Horizons, where the sky touches the sea or the earth, have always fascinated me
- forever magical, forever changing, with promise of the new.
